It wasn’t until recently (very recently) that I actually lived within the District. I’d spent the rest of my life in the Commonwealth of Virginia. I am loving city living and all that it entails, but one thing I’m sad to be further away from is Arlington’s Galaxy Hut. It is, by far, my favorite bar in the area. It’s got more character than any watering hole that I know of in the city proper. Between their tremendous beer selection and their great music (whether live, jukebox-based or chosen by the bartenders), there’s no place I’d rather spend an evening. There was a time when I was there at least twice a week — every Thursday for Karaoke night, and at least once a weekend for Brunch. Plus a couple other visits, usually.
Well, times have changed at the Hut. Karaoke happens once a month now, on Sundays. And brunch has long gone the way of the Dodo. So it was with great excitement that I opened the following email from Galaxy Hut’s owner (and totally awesome all around dude) Larry Hoffman:
hello all,
galaxy hut just started opening for lunch on monday…
we are open at 11:30 every day except saturday (i don’t have people to work saturday yet) but will soon be 7 days.
we are working with our updated dinner menu, but will be running daily specials starting sunday.
we will also have free wifi during the day, and smoking is only permitted at the bar and on the patio.
we don’t close between lunch and dinner… and the menu is available straight through.
happy hour specials go from opening time to 8 pm.
cheers,
lary
Mid-day dining! Wifi! More available hours at the hut! This is all great news. In addition to being my favorite spot to drink a craft beer, Galaxy Hut’s bar food is also top notch. They’ve got both fleshy and vegan fare, and everything’s got a unique spin on it. The hummus has bite, the tater tots have depth, and the wings are tasty without being messy. I just have one request, Larry. Bring back the Lil Smokies I used to worship during brunch. Pretty please?

You voluntarily walk into a Karaoke bar?

Karaoke aside, Galaxy is one of the most relaxed, non-sports, jock, or douchy bars in all of Arlington. Great music too. I moved down south and I miss it a lot!
